Religion


Religion is very important in < st1: place India w: st = "on"> , with deep historical roots; Hinduism and both Buddhism was born here. Most people in India practice Hinduism with Islam a distant second. Other major religions include Christianity, Sikhism, Buddhism and Jainism.

Around 75; percent of Indians are Hindus. There are significant differences within the Hindu majority, not only of divisions of caste, but also from different religious beliefs. A large gap between supporters of the god Vishnu and followers of the god Shiva . There are also Hindus who are members of the relocation program reform program that began in the 19th century. In communities India are generally more than the urban landscape. In many villages and cities in Northern India , Muslims are one-third or more of the population. Besides Jammu and Kashmir and the Lakshadweep Islands, where more than two-thirds of the population is Muslim, large concentrations of Muslims live in Assam , West Bengal , Uttar Pradesh and Kerala. Approximately one quarter of all Muslims living in India live in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

India " and other major religious groups of Christians (6 percent of the population), Sikhs (2 percent), Buddhists (0.7 percent) , Jain (0.4 percent), a small number of Zoroastrians (or Parsis), and a few thousand Jews. Christians live mainly in urban areas in India , with major concentrations in the state of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, st w, location and Goa . Christians a majority in the three small states in the Northeast: Nagaland , Meghalaya and Mizoram. Most Sikhs live in Punjab , generally in rural areas.

Buddhists live in small numbers in the Himalayas from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh, a large number of converts also live in Maharashtra . The Jain live mainly in the belt of western countries, from Rajasthan through Gujarat and Maharashtra to Karnataka. This region has many beautiful Jain temples, supported by the wealthy merchants Jain. Parsis live mainly in Mumbai and cities in Gujarat, and Jews have small communities in Mumbai, Calcutta and Cochin .

Local communities; of all these religions maintain institutions such as the prayer houses, schools, clubs and charitable institutions that bring them together. Large organizations are also religious groups, including political parties.
