Lake Palace, originally known as Jag Niwas, was built in 1754 by Maharana Jagat Singh II. This palace was the summer residence of the rulers of Mewar. This palace was converted into one of the most romantic hotels in the world, by Maharana Bhagat Singh in 1963. He realized that the Maharajas were in the twilight of their glory and should quickly seek alternatives to preserve their heritage. Its reconstruction was started in 1959. In 1963, the Lake Palace opened its doors to its guests. In 1971, the Taj took over the hotel Lake Palace and added 75 luxurious rooms. Today, this pleasure palace is a luxury hotel like none other in the world. This hotel provides the pleasures of a long gone age of princes. The sitting room is distinguished by original paintings, brocade paneling and exquisite ivory inlaid chair. In this hotel, one could arrive by boat.
